Goals are hugely important. After all, without them, you can't win. Here, U4GM FIFA 20 Coins Saller talk you through the various choices you have when presented with an opportunity where it's just you and the goalkeeper going head-to-head and a few quick pointers on how to use them most effectively:
Finesse Shot
- Create an angle against the GK;
- Open up the body if there's no angle to work with;
- Aim high or on the ground (with a tap), never in the middle (good height for the GK to save).
Driven Shot
- Aim to the side of the keeper;
- Wait for the goalkeeper to commit/dive in;
- Hold L1/LB (L1/R2 on our controls if you have changed) + shoot button (after you've added sufficient power) you will get the shot away very quickly and right along the ground;
TIP - If you only use the driven shooting where you have a clean shot on goal. If you don't have the power to beat the GK if you're more than 6-8 yards away from target so make sure you add a bit more energy if you're further away from goal.
Power Shot
- Knock the ball in front for your players to run onto and shoot (using a right stick or sprinting);
- To keep your shot low, power up then tap the button after you've put the desired power on the ball (see further down and above) for driven finish tips;
- Hit earlier rather than waiting for the keeper to get close (they will almost always stop the shot if they get within 5-10 yards on the pitch).
TIP – Perfect to use a timed shot in this scenario as you'll have time to power up and then time your blast as your player moves forward onto it.
Lob Shot
- Think about the distance you are from goal (25 yards + is going to be very difficult to score);
- Think about how the keeper has been reacting to through balls and chances made all game;
- How much power to apply, taking into consideration the backspin applied to the ball.
Dink Shot
- No more than 12 yards out, any further won't have the speed or power to go in;
- Double-tap quickly once the keeper is committed;
- Remember to hold L1/LB as you shoot.
Skill Move/Dribble around the goalkeeper
- Use a skill move that you are comfortable with;
- One that changes the direction that your player is traveling;
- Can result in a penalty if the keeper isn't quick enough.
TIP – The ball roll or stepovers are usually the effective move way to round the GK.
Big Touch (One of the best methods of scoring a 1v1)
- If the ball is between you and the keeper;
- They rush towards you, but your player is going to get there first;
- Be careful with the finish (aim at the goal, not the way you're running);
- Use the right stick to knock ahead or carry on sprinting but change direction.
TIP – Ensure that you have enough space for
a) your player to get onto the ball after getting around the GK and
b) that your player will still have some angle to work with to tuck the ball away.
Square Ball/Sweaty ball
- If it's on, use it. Players do in real-life situations, use through ball button to get the ball in front of the player to run onto, standard pass to get it to feet of the player;
- This is frowned upon but if it's a tight game then use it, if you're winning quickly already later try something different or spectacular;
- L1/LB and through ball is an option if the GK has closed down the angle for the pass to lob the ball over him.
Scoop Lob
- L2/LT adds flair and can also look great;
- Careful as not every player can perform this shot.
