Monthly rewards are probably the biggest pull behind FUT Champions. Having a pack full of TOTW players from the previous month is something that, speaking as people who aren't that fond or bothered by opening packs, is pretty darn exciting! We have picked up some serious talent by getting Elite monthly rewards and, hopefully, by reading this guide, we can get you into the top tier for rewards also. We have planned a little something for you to take a picture of on your phones or refer back to on here for you. See below and then we'll explain the rationale behind it
Taking Information from their Squad and Formation
Be quick
You HAVE to be quick here, not distracted by your phone or anything else in the room. As soon as the screen loads with their players and formation, asses it. Look where they have strong, high rated players and look if they have any anomalies where players aren't in keeping with the rest of the team. You only have about 10 – 15 seconds to do this and there's more, so read below.
Compare to yours
If you don't already, learn your squad. You have to match your team, to theirs, in your head. Think about where your strong players are and see if they are higher rated than who they will be up against.
EXAMPLE - Willian on your team playing RW against Mikel Alonso, their LB. You can automatically know that Willian isn't going to win many headers in that duel but will have to agility and slight pace advantage.
TOP TIP – If your opponent pauses the game from kick-off, you know they're making a change (This is particularly evident if they have Alex Hunter or a random bronze, for chemistry, in the squad) on that pre-game screen). Go onto the player rating tab, in the pause menu and then you'll be able to see if they have changed formation to a new one, and/or if they've swapped players around. This is one of the best tips we can give and it can really give you the edge over your opponent.
NB – Wait for 10 seconds of the paused game first before looking where we told you to. This will give them time to actually make the change and for the game to register
Key attributes for Fut Champions
Staying calm
The need to stay calm under pressure is a key attribute that you need to have, or you will definitely need to work on to succeed on FUT Champions. If you get stressed easily or find yourself blaming everything but yourself then you need to find a way to work around this.
Taking accountability
Yes, the game has its flaws and yes, it's very annoying but the quicker you come to terms with that fact it is a game, written with computer code (the complexity of this is HUGE!), the quicker you will be able to accept this and the quicker you'll be able to take accountability.
Many players blame the game and its flaws rather than looking at what they might have done wrong. Even if it is a bug in the game like a GK mistake, that you see a lot, no good is going to come of you raging at the game. Have a think about what you could have done to stop the shot in the first place and remember to STAY CALM.
Patience
Another key area for you to think about is being patient. Goals will be scored early in the game versus you at some point. The worst thing you can do if you do go 1 or 2 goals down early in the game is rush, change your style and panic. Stay patient, stick to one of your favorite gameplay styles but if you start diving into tackles, trying to force passes that aren't there, you'll only end up conceding more goals in the majority of circumstances.
Your players' attributes
Something you might not think about when buying your team but if you refer back to earlier in this guide, it's something that is crucial to your success. Use FUTwiz's website to search for these attributes before you buy a player, particularly if you're thinking of investing a large proportion of your FIFA 20 coins in one or two players. Make sure they're right.
What attributes will they need?
Simply put, these are the top 5 attributes that you'll want your player to have high stats in. Obviously, these can change per position but, as a rule, if your player has high stats in at least three of these areas, you'll be looking at a decent player for FUT Champions:
- Stamina;
- Strength;
- Sprint Speed;
- Acceleration;
- Balance (or agility).
As you may have noticed, these are the physical attributes. As we said, the positions make this relative as obviously, if you have a striker, you want them to have a good finishing and shot power, etc.
On the next page are two examples of players (from FIFA 17) to explain this point.
The first picture shows a list of players who all have UNDER 65 Stamina. Van Basten, Iniesta, Okocha, Inzaghi are just a few of the showcase names. You don't want these players in your squads, even if they are legends. They will tire quickly
The second and third pictures show some of the players with HIGH Stamina stats. We filtered out the special cards here as a lot of them get boosted stamina stats when they get their TOTY/TOTS/TOTT cards. You'll recognize immediately that there are a lot of players on the list who are classed as overpowered and/or who give you problems.
There you have it, buying someone like Aaron Ramsey or Gary Medel might be better than investing in a high rated 88 or 89 player who has poor stamina, in fact, it will be. That's the way FIFA works.
Using the first 5-10 Mins Effectively
Being switched on, right from kick-off in something that you HAVE to get into the habit of doing.
Don't concede
Whatever you do, it should be your utmost priority to not concede a goal, in the first ten minutes of play. Chasing the game is never a good thing.
Assess their play style
This may take longer than 10 minutes, but you also might be able to tell right from the off.
The more you play, the more you'll be able to tell within the first 5 – 10 minutes what type of player you're facing is.
Look after the ball
If you're on the side that is kicking off – keep the ball and get a feel for how the game is playing. Not every game has crisp, instantaneous passing so gets a feel for how the passing feels and make a judgment call and how risky you can be. If it feels great then tempt the players close to you and then pick the pass, if you're getting a feeling that the passing has a slight delay then move the ball on quicker. This will do a few things: It will get you settled into the game; give you a feel for how the opponent is pressing AND crucially, you'll be able to use the radar to gather a key piece of information.
Check their stamina
Checking the radar as you're passing the ball isn't easy but is something that will become second nature, the more you do it. You may make mistakes in passing or get caught in possession the first few games you try this so if you want to try outside of FUT Champions game mode, this is something we definitely recommend doing. We added the sub-title of ‘Check their stamina' for a reason. You can see, on the screen what each player in their squad is sitting on, in terms of fitness. You won't b able to see if it's 94 or 91, specifically but you'll be able to see if it's full or not. If it's full for each player then try to play a possession-based style for a good 20-25 minutes of the game at least.
TOP TIP - Physical attributes are affected by a player's stamina during the match. The attributes affected are as follows:
o Acceleration
o Agility
o Jumping
o Strength
o Reactions
o Marking
So, this emphasizes the need to take stamina from your opponent's players. They will lose vital stats on their players and this is also why the use of super subs is so important and, our next set of tips ‘How to play in Extra Time' will again drive home this point we're making.
Drop-in
If you're not kicking off, the last thing you want to do is a chase and try to harass their players from kick-off. Some players do like to do this and that's fair enough, if they are highly skilled in this area of pressing with several players and they can get an early goal or two then that is obviously, hugely beneficial. However, don't get that goal in the first 15 minutes and your players will have already taken pretty substantial stamina hit.
We advise to drop in and just let them come to you. Most players won't have the patience to pass the ball around the back and not try to progress forwards. We have detailed instructions on how to do this effectively in our Gameplay Guide which you can purchase alongside this Guide through our site. To sum up: drop-in, make your team compact to ensure you don't concede early and tire your players out unnecessarily, early in the game.
