The slot finish, as U4GM FIFA 20 Coins Sellers have named it, was a massive success for us on FIFA 19 & 20 and is a solid finish on FIFA 19, even more than ever in fact, with the inclusion of the driven finish. The diagram above shows you an example of how players will rush their GK out to the ball when there might be a one v one opportunity to score. The slot finish is an effective way of scoring when presented with a one v one chance.
How to perform the slot finish
It couldn't be much simpler to achieve this shot. It requires a tap of the button so the power bar powers up no more than 25%, that's 1 bar of power on the radar.
TIP: To make the finish even more useful, if you can, you need to slightly change the angle of the finish just before you tap the button. By only moving to the side of the GK, either with a simple flick of the left stick or a ball roll, if you want to make a skill move, you can create an angle to slot the ball under the GK's body.
Why this finish works so well
Animations and GK mechanics are always being ‘worked out' by EA, but there are still flaws and ways of scoring, which U4GM will always find for you. When they rush out, they spread themselves just before reaching the contact point of your player (about 3-4 yards of pitch space). What we mean by this, is they go into their ‘spread save' animation. Because most keepers are so tall, they take time to reach the ground, especially if they aren't that agile or quick and this allows you to slide the ball under the GK for a smooth finish.
Use once you have gone around the GK
If you've gone round the goalkeeper and there aren't any defenders on the goal-line, or capable of reaching the ball, use the slot finish to ensure a more accurate finish, so you don't undo your good work of rounding the GK. If there is a tracking defender then using the slot finish won't be beaten as it'll give the opposition player a more significant chance to clear it off the line. Go for power or high finesse in this situation.
Secret Slot Finish Tip
You may have already figured this out or tried it out but for those that haven't give this a try if you want a bit of fun. Use a driven pass when you're one-on-one with the GK. The pass can have real pace and often fizzes past the opposition GK. Give it a try next time you're faced with a 1v1!
